Microscopy Lab Flashcards
Prokaryote cell
Single celled or colonial that do not have membrane bound nucleus
Eukaryotic cell
Have membrane bound nucleus and organelles
Handling procedures for microscope
- Carry upright position
- Begin with lowest magnification
- Begin with lowest stage position
- wipe lens before and after
- Store with cover + wrapped cord
Focusing the microscope
- Lower stage to lowest position
- Start with 4x lens ( scanning lens)
- Place slide and raise stage to topmost position
- Turn fine focus knob
- Center objective
-When you remove slide = lowest magnification and stage
What does the aperture iris diaphragme ring do?
Controls amount of light
Essential elements of a table to represent data
- Title
- Column Header
- Column Title
- Row Header
- Row Title
- Body info
Where are the independent variables located in a table ?

Where are the dependent variable locales in a table ?
Column headers
How to do a biological drawing
- Define clear lines
- Show correct proportions
- Label on the right WITH RULER
- Title of diagram
- Magnification
How to calculate the total magnification
Product of ocular lens (10X) and objective lens (4X ,10X, 40X, 100X)
How to calculate the total magnification
Product of ocular lens (10X) and objective lens (4X ,10X, 40X, 100X)
What is a field of view
The area of light that is seen when looking through the ocular lens ( changes with objective lens)
Define control
The treatment that eliminates the independent variable or set it at standard level
What is a controlled variable ?
What the investigator varies in the experiment
Level of treatment
The appropriate values to use for independent variable.
