Cell Division Lab Flashcards
What are the phases of cell division?
1) Interphase
2) Prophase
3) Metaphase
4) Anaphase
5) Telophase
What is Interphase?
Cell looks normal, first step of cell division.
What are the steps in Interphase?
G1: cell is growing and os metabolically active.
G2 : Cell prepares for division
S : Chromosome replication
What is prophase?
Sister chromatid becomes thicker and shorter which results in white spaces in the nuclear section. Chromosomes coil up and membrane breaks down.
What is metaphase?
Begins when the sister chromatid lie on the equator ( middle) of the cell.
Centrioles made spindle fibre to move the chromosomes to the equator.
What is Anaphase?
Splitting of centromere and each former chromatid is now a chromosome. Chromosome pulled toward opposite poles ( looks like finger pointing at each other )
What is telophase?
Nuclear membrane reform, chromosomes uncoil. Cell divides and nucleoli reformes. Division of cell cytoplasm.
What is cytokinesis?
Division of cell cytoplasm
