Microscopy and Magnification Flashcards
What is the magnification of a microscope ?
it is calculated by multiplying the eyepiece power by the objective power.
-if we have a ×10 eyepiece and we have selected a ×15 objective lens the magnification is ×150.
-this means the object has been magnified 150 times.
Different conversions (smaller)
cm ×1000 mm ×1000 nanometers.
Different conversions (larger)
nanometers ÷1000 mm ÷1000 cm ÷1000 m ÷1000 km ÷1000 t
How do you calculate actual size ?
actual = image size/magnification.
How do you calculate magnification ?
magnification = image size/actual size.
How do you calculate image size ?
image size = actual size × magnification
What is resolution ?
-and electron photomicrograph is clearer than a light micrograph.
-this is because it has greater resolution.
Resolution…..
-the clearer the image the greater the resolution.
What is the max resolution of a light micrograph ?
200nm
Why can ribosomes not be seen ?
-because they can’t be seen because they’re (or under) 25nm.
