Microscopy Flashcards
The technical field of using microscope to view objects we cannot see with unaided eye.
Microscopy
Used to observe small objects even cells.
Microscope
He invented the first light microscope in 1590s.
Zacharias Janssen
He made significant improvements to the compound microscope.
Anton Van Leeuwenhoek
It is the increase in an object’s apparent size.
Magnification
The ability or power to show details clearly.
Resolution
It is the upper end of the microscope that is used to peep.
Ocular lens or eyepiece
The most important part of the optical parts.
Objective lens
Magnifies up to 4x magnification.
Scanner
Magnifies up to 10x.
Low Power Objective
Magnifies up to 40x magnification.
High Power Objective
Magnifies up to 100x objective.
Oil immersion objective
Is an oil used for the oil immersion objective. It is put in the specimen for viewing.
Cedar oil
It collects and reflect light from an external light source up into the microscope.
Mirror
Holds the mirror.
Mirror Rack
Consists of condensing lens that directs the maximum amount of light upon an object.
Condenser
A flat disc located beneath the condenser.
Iris diaphragm
The platform where the slide is placed.
Stage
Used to hold the slide firmly onto the stage.
Stage clips
Parts that brings the specimen into focus.
Adjustment knobs
Focuses on the HPO.
Fine adjustment knob
Focuses on the LPO.
Course adjustment knob
The part where the objectives are attached.
Revolving nosepiece
Protects the objectives from dusts.
Dust shield
Anchors the microscope firmly on the table.
Base
Is a mechanism mounted on the stage that holds and moves the microscope.
