Microscope Parts Flashcards
What is the arm?
Arm connects to the base and supports the microscope head. It is also used to carry the microscope.
What are the objective lenses?
Magnification. In addition to simply capturing reflected light to render an image, the objective lens of a microscope magnifies the image. Many stationary microscopes have several objective lenses that the user can rotate to view the object at varying levels, or “powers,” of magnification.
What is the Course Focus Knob?
It is used for making large adjustments to the focus of the specimen. When you turn the coarse focus knob, it moves the stage (where the specimen is placed) up or down rapidly.
What is the Light Source?
Light from outside is sent to the reflective mirror to illuminate the sample. Direct sunlight must be avoided.
What is the EYe Piece?
An eyepiece is a component of a microscope that magnifies the primary image produced by the objective, allowing the eye to view the specimen with increased clarity and detail.
What is the base?
The bottom of the microscope, used for support Illuminator: A steady light source (110 volts) used in place of a mirror
Fine Focus Knob?
It is used for making small, precise adjustments to the focus of the specimen. When you turn the fine focus knob, it moves the stage very slightly up or down.
Stage?
All microscopes are designed to include a stage where the specimen (usually mounted onto a glass slide) is placed for observation
Body Tube?
The microscope body tube separates the objective and the eyepiece and assures continuous alignment of the optics.
Nose Piece?
Holds the objective lenses & attaches them to the microscope head. This part rotates to change which objective lens is active.
Diaphragm?
Among the various components of a microscope, the diaphragm plays a crucial role in controlling the amount of light that passes through the specimen.
Stage Clips?
Stage clips hold the slides in place.
