Microscope Flashcards
What are parts of the microscope?
Tube, Revolving nose piece, objective lenses, stage, stage clips, diaphragm, condenser lens, lamp, base, fine adjustment knob, corse adjustment knob, arm, eyepiece.
Whats the eye piece
Eyepiece or ocular lens This is the lens that
magnifies the specimen, usually by 10 times (10x).
Whats the Revolving nosepiece
Where the objective lenses are mounted. Rotate the lens to select low-, medium-, or high-power lenses.
Whats the Corse adjustment Knob
This knob moves the stage up or down to focus on the specimen. This is the first knob you use to focus on a specimen.
Whats the Fine adjustment Knob
Use this lens to sharpen an
image under low and medium power. It is the only adjustment knob needed with the high-power lens.
What are the objective lenses
There are three lenses that magnify the specimen: low-power (4x), medium power (10x) and high-power (40x). Keep the lenses free of dirt and fingerprints.
What is the stage
This is where you place a slide for
observation. Always keep the stage dry
What are the stage clips
These are used to hold a slide in
position on the stage.
What is the diaphragm
This has different-sized holes that let
different amounts of light pass through the
specimen on the stage
What is the lamp
The lamp supplies light that is shined on the stage, helps you see better.
What is the arm
It helps hold the tube in place, its usually where you carry the microscope.
What is the base and tube
The base hold the microscope up and supports it, the tube is a proper distance always from the eyepiece so it can be magnified properly.
What is the condenser lens
This lens is under the stage. It helps
focus light onto the specimen on top of the stage.
What is a compound light microscope
A microscope that creates a magnified image of a specimen by focusing light through a variety of lenses.
Whats permeable.
Something that can be easily passed through (cotton)
