Microscope Flashcards
What does the ocular lenses do?
THE EYEPIECE – FORMS AN IMAGE THAT CAN BE VISUALISED BY THE EYE OR CAMERA AND HOUSES THE OCULAR LENS 10 OR 15 X MAGNIFICATION (CAN BE INTERCHANGEABLE AND ADJUSTABLE)
What does the objective lenses do?
THE REVOLVING NOSE PIECE HOLDS THE OBJECTIVE LENSES, THESE ARE THE OPTICAL ELEMENTS CLOSEST TO THE SPECIMEN.
What are the ocular lenses sizes used?
4 X scanning power 10 X (LPO) 40 X (HPO and dry) 100 X (OIO)
What does the condenser/diaphragm do?
It contains a set of lenses that focuses light onto the specimen. It alters the contrast of the image seen in the microscope.
Why is oil immersion done?
WHY? = LIGHT REFRACTION – THE LIGHT BENDS – YOU LOSE THE LIGHT AND LOSE IMAGE DETAIL.
= USING IMMERSION OIL = OIL AND GLASS HAVE SAME REFRACTIVE INDEX SO MORE LIGHT CAN BEAM THROUGH = SHARPER IMAGE
