Q

Characteristics of dynamic mics?

A
  • Good low-frequency response,
  • Not good for high frequencies.
  • Take high SPL, not very sensitive.
  • Poor transient response
  • durable

14
Q

how does it work (ribbon mics)?

A

lightweight metal ribbon suspended btw the poles of a magnet and as it vibrates a voltage is induced and is picked off by contacts at the end of the ribbon.

Q

DI ?

A

used to convert unbalanced instrument level to balanced lin or mic lvl

21
Q

Active DI?

A

conversion is done with a power amplifier

22
Q

Passive DI?

A

conversion is done with a transformer

23
Q

Polar pattern?

A

stereo miking?

A
  • AB
  • XY
  • ORTF
  • Blumlein
  • DECCA tree
  • MS
  • binaural
25
Q

AB?

A
  • involves two spaced (usually omnidirectional) microphones to record the sound stage. difference in time
  • space btw 40 to 60 cm
26
Q

XY coincident?

A
  • 2 cardioid
  • difference in audio volume
  • 90° angled
  • off-axis attenuation
27
Q

ORTF?

A
  • difference in volume and time
  • angled at 110° + spaced at 17cm
  • cardioid
  • ## mono compatible
28
Q

DECCA tree?

A
  • omni
  • orchestra rec (ferber)
  • enfaite c’ AB + centre
29
Q

MS mid sides?

A
  • cardioid + 8

- keep the cardio & copy the 8 signal then reverse the phase

30
Q

Blumlein?

A
  • 2 matched mic of 8 (90°)

- surround feel

31
Q

Binaural?

A
  • dummy head with 2 omni placed at the ears
