Physics Flashcards
Amplitude?
refers to the magnitude of compression and expansion of a sound wave
Frequency?
periodic vibration, unit Hz. Determined by the pitch
Wavelength?
is a measure of distance btw 2 identical peaks in a wave
Formulae of wavelenght
lambda = the speed/the frequency
Timbre?
2 sound waves of even the same amplitude and frequency can produce completely different sound
In phase?
2 waves of the same frequency are said to be in phase when their compression (positive ) and rarefaction (negative ) half cycles coincide exactly in time and space.
Out of phase?
when the positive half cycle of one coincides with the negative cycle of the other
Comb filter?
adds a delayed version of a signal to itself causing constructive and destructive interference
Fletcher and Munson?
indicate the ear’s sensitivity to different frequencies at various levels.
