microevolution Flashcards
Changes in population over time
Microevolution
— exists in populations – different alleles
Genetic variation
– Small changes in allele frequencies or different
combinations of genes in offspring over time in the same species
- MICROEVOLUTION
When dramatic changes in allele frequencies
that a new species comes about.
MACROEVOLUTION
2 Kinds of EVOLUTION
Microevolution and Macroevolution
- Will affect which alleles make an organism fit or not in a population
Selection Pressures
N is always on-going (as long
as the environment is changing then the allele
frequencies are always going to change)
*MICROEVOLUTION
A principle that helps to predict allele frequencies in
a population.
Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium
It assumes no selection, no mutation, no geneflow,
random mating, and large populations for stable
allele frequencies.
