Q

Outline the micro anatomy of the heart?

A

The endocardium is lined by endothelium
The myocardium contains heart muscle
The epicardium is the outer most layer which consist of mesothelioma and connective tissue

Q

What are the nervi vasorum?

A

small nerve fibers found in arteries and veins that trigger contraction of the smooth muscle in their walls.

Q

What is a metarteriole?

A

a short microvessel in the microcirculation that links arterioles and capillaries. they have individual smooth muscle cells placed a short distance apart, each forming a precapillary sphincter that encircles the entrance to that capillary bed.

13
Q

Describe the structure of a large, elastic artery?

A

They contain substantial amounts of elastic fibres in the tunica media to help maintain a constant flow of blood during diastole

14
Q

Describe the structure of medium, muscular arteries?

A

They have a tunica media that contains mostly smooth muscle fibres which allows regulation of diameter and control of blood flow

15
Q

Why is blood pressure higher in arteries than any other cardiac vessel?

A

As they’re closer to the heart after contraction and they have a higher contractile capacity

16
Q

Describe the structure of large veins?

A

They contain some smooth muscle in the tunica media but the thickest layer is the tunica externa

17
Q

How do you work out blood pressure?

A

Cardiac output x peripheral resistance

18
Q

What’s normal blood pressure?

A

120/80 mmHg

19
Q

What factors aid venous return?

A

Respiratory pump
Muscular pump
Sympathetic vasoconstriction

20
Q

What is arteriosclerosis?

A

Arteries that become calcified and rigid so they can’t expand when the systolic pressure wave passes through. This makes the walls weaker over time
