Micro Lec 7 Flashcards
Acquired Immunity
carried out by a subset of cells called lymphocytes
Lymphocytes
2 types which is B and T cells. Both originate in bone marrow. Both found in blood and lymphatic systems.
B cells
maturation of B cells takes place in bone marrow and then they migrate to lymph nodes and spleen.
T cells
maturation of t cells takes place in thymus. Primary defend against intracellular pathogens and foreign tissue. 2 main types are Helper T Cells and Cytotoxic T Cells
Antibodies
Antibodies are produced of subset of B cells called plasma cells.Primary defend against pathogens circulating in bodies fluids. Secondary immune response = memory response due to memory cells, another type of B cells.
Helper T Cells
Sacrete lymphokines to activate other T and B cells and phagocytes.
Cytotoxic T Cells
Destroy target cells on contact. In most instances B and T cells work together and 2nd and 3rd line of defense work together
Cytokines
protein based cell signals
