Allen level 2
Actions related to comfort or discomfort. Short attention span of less than 10 minutes. May wonder or be resistant to caregiver assistance. 24 hour nursing.
Allen level 1
Conscious but profoundly disabled. Stare, may sit, walk, or chew with simple commands. 24 hour nursing care
Allen level 3
Manual actions. Pointless or destructive manipulation of objects. Behavior may be inappropriate or not goal directed. Needs cues to groom.
Allen level 4
Goal directed with cues. Pace is slow and person pays little attention to environment. Needs support in community, as plans are often unrealistic.
Allen 5
Trial and error problem-solving. Often impulsive or careless. Fails to see consequences of behaviors, especially long term.
Allen 6
Plans ahead. Thinks ahead before acting and can predict consequences of behavior. Independent and organized.
