Involves establishing clear standards to determine whether an organization is progressing towards goals and objectives
How do you create a vision in planning

Have a vision/vision : why the organization exists, purpose of organization
Goals : broad, long-term aims
What are values and mission statements?
Values are set of fundamental beliefs that guide a business in the decision they make, while a mission statement is an outline of the organizations fundamental process
Goals, objectives, plans
Goals: broad, long-term accomplishments, an organization wishes to attain
Objectives: our specific short term statements detailing how to achieve the organizations goals
Plans: the ordered sequence of strategies, an organization uses to achieve each objective
What is SWOT
Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
Strengths and weaknesses are things within the control of the org
Opportunities and threats are things outside your control and things you have to find info about to act on
4 forms of planning
Strategic planning: setting broad, long range goals by top managers
Tactical planning: identify specific short range objectives by lower managers
Operational planning: setting work standards and schedules
Contingency planning: back plans in case primary plans fail
What is crisis planning?
It involves reacting to sudden changes in the environment and can be especially challenging to medium sized and smaller companies due to fewer resources
Controlling consist of what five steps
- Establish clear performance standards
- Monitor and record actual performance
-  Compare results against plans and standards.
- Communicate results and deviations to the employees involved.
- Take corrective action we needed and providing positive feedback.
