MG Perms Flashcards
Perm - Do Plan and the Alt
Alt is not mutually exclusive from Plan - No Competitiveness
Perm - Do Plan and All Non-Competitive Parts of the Alt
Do Plan and all of CP that is not competitive to Plan (additional things instead of replacing/striking things). Works for alternatives that are only competitive bc they add in a phrase that rejects PMC advocacies.
Perm - Do the Plan and Write Alternative Text on the Ballot
(when Alt Solvency is based on judge only standing with Neg, or the notion that Debate ballots are currency to help change peoples world views)
Perm - Do the Plan and Advocate the Alt Outside of the Round
(If solvency is based on talking about the critique / engaging in activism)
Perm - Do Plan then Alt
(Win Impact Timeframe comparison against critique + turn nonunique args)
Perm - Plan in order to Alt
Plan is what the Neg is trying to accomplish, but Alt Solvency doesn’t argue why the Plan is bad
Perm - Do the plan and be haunted by the Alt
Judge can vote for the plan while still considering the impacts/discussions the alt raises. (Best for education/Neg gaining solvency while still voting for the plan)
Perm Net Benefit - Juxtaposition
- This Perm combines philosophical incompatibility of Aff and Neg Advocacies
- Juxtaposition ruptures dominant assumptions rooted in both advocacies, which encourages critically thinking and learning about the topic. (Butler?)
- Creates a line of flight, forming better epistemology and policy strategies that are key to survival and representing marginalized populations
Perm Net Benefit - Third Space
- By rendering Plan and Alt as mutually exclusive, Neg creates a binary opposition between two advocacies
- Binary oppositions erase marginalized spaces outside of those two realms. Ex: Straight/Gay binary erases asexual, bisexual, etc. out of the understanding
- Putting Plan and Alt together disrupts binary by creating the third “Perm” space. This solves essentialism and reduction that the Neg does.
Perm Net Benefit - Praxis
- Alt alone does not engage in political spaces or action to solve problems, but argues that we have to take action outside first. (Theory should be done for social change, rather than just for theory’s sake)
- We cede political arguments because those in power will always quash social movements and form new policies. Ex: Elites defined and essentialized (Characterize) key components of the Occupy Wall Street Movement
- Perm resolves bc it represents critical theory in action. We take philosophy of Alt into a post-fiat world through policymaking spaces, so we are the only opportunity to generate critical education and understanding of political change, which is the only internal link to long-term solvency
