The neutral ground is an area where the US and Spain did not agree on the boundaries. They made it a neutral ground but smugglers, outlaws, and fugitives settled there to fie form the police.

he chose the land between the Colorado and Brazos Rivers because the area had rich soil, access to water, and a warm climate

The guarantees were to declare Mexico independent from Spain, Mexican people would have equal rights, and Catholicism would be the official religion.

He traveled to the United States in 1811 to get help freeing Texas from Spanish rule, he met Augustus Magee, and together they created the Republican Army of the North.
When was the Battle of Medina?
1813
Describe the Battle of Medina, what was the result of the battle.
It was known as the “ Bloodiest Battle in Texas History” General Arredondo, the Spanish commander, overwhelmed the Republican Army. Those who were not killed in the battle were executed. As a result, Texas remained under the control of the Spanish for another seven years.
What was the Adams-Onis Treaty?
A treaty that ended the neutral ground agreement. The treaty agreements were that the Sabine River became the boundary of Texas, the US got Florida, and the US also promised to leave Spain alone.
Who was Bernardo Galvez? What did he do?
He was a Spanish military governor who aided the Americans in the American Revolution by allowing American ships to use ports in New Orleans, gave supplies and money, and led Spanish troops against the British. With Spain’s help, Spain got Florida.
Why is the year 1821 significant to Texas history?
1821 is when Mexico got their independence, and when the treaty of Cordoba was signed, Spain was no longer in control of Mexico ad Texas became apart of Mexico.
Who is Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla and what was his role in the war for independence?
He called on Mexican citizens to fight for independence from Spain in 1810, his speech was called, “ Grito de Delores” and he was known as the Father of Mexican Independence.
Why was James Long significant?
He declared Texas independent. He was the last filibuster in Texas and also Texas’ first president, he was shot and killed by a guard 6 months after he became president.

That Texas missions should be abandoned except San Antonio and Goliad, and all settlers in east Texas be moved to San Antonio.

He was the first filibuster who came to Texas claiming to capture wild mustangs, Spain suspected that he was a spy because of his close relations to America (he likely was a spy).
