Class
Beta adrenergic antagonist, antianginal, antihypertensive, class II
Action
Inhibits the strength of the heart’s contractions, as well as heart rate. This results in a decrease in cardiac oxygen consumption
Indications
ACS, hypertension, SVT, atrial flutter, AF, thyrotoxicosis
Adverse Effects
Tiredness, dizziness, dairrhea, heart block, bradycardia, known sensitivity. Use caution in hypotension, chronic lung disease (ashtma & COPD)
Adult Dosage (Cardiac Indications)
5 mg slow IV, IO over a 5-min period; repeat at 5 mins intervals up to a total of three infusions totaling 15 mg IV, IO
Peds Dosage (Cardiac Indications)
Not recommended for pediatric patients; no studies available
Special Considerations
Blood pressure, heart rate, and ECG should be monitored carefully.
Use with caution in patients with ashtma; Pregnancy class C
