A

Where a company produces single product or small number of products to specific requirements
Is labour intensive
Eg. Wedding cake

What is batch production

A
  • products that are made at the same time in batches
  • each product in the batch is the same but there may be slight variations between batches
    Eg. Same house repeated on building site

What is flow production

A
  • Continuous process with production flowing from one operation to the next where parts are added to the product as it moves along the production line.
  • The final product will have been made by the time it reaches the end of the production line.
  • capital intensive.

  • Labour is usually readily available
  • No need to purchase a lot of expensive equipment
  • It is expensive and takes time to recruit, select and train new employees
  • Can take a long time to make a unique product.
