Methods of Non-probability sampling Flashcards
It sets out to make a sample agree with the profile of the population based on some pre-selected characteristic.
Purposive Sampling
it selects a specified number (quota) of sampling units possessing certain characteristics
Quota Sampling
It selects sampling units that come to hand or are convenient to get information from
Convenience Sampling
It selects sample in accordance with an expert’s judgment
Judgement Sampling
A method where new units are recruited by other units to form part of the sample
Snowball sampling
Methods of Probability Sampling
a method of selecting n units out of the N units in the population in such a way that every distinct sample size n has an equal chance of being drawn
Simple Random Sampling (SRS)
selected unit will not be selected again
SRS without Replacement
selected unit has a chance of being selected again
SRS with Replacement
is a method of selecting sample by taking every kth unit from an ordered population, the first unit being selected at random. here, k is the sampling interval, 1/k is the sampling fraction
Systematic Random Sampling
The population of N units is first divided into strata. Each stratum must consist of more or less homogeneous units. then a SRS is drawn from each stratum, the selection being made independently in different strata
Stratified Random Sampling
method where a sample of distinct groups or clusters of elements is selected and then the census of every element in the selected clusters is taken.
Cluster Random Sampling
the population is divided into a hierarchy of sampling units corresponding to the different sampling stages. It can be two-stage or three-stage or four-stage.
Multistage Random Sampling
