How does metformin work? (in patient friendly language)
A
This medication will bring down glucose made by your liver, and allows the rest of your body to take in the glucose in your blood more easily.

What are the side effects of Metformin?
A
may cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea

What are counselling points for Metformin?
A
- Take with or after food to reduce stomach upset.
- Swallow controlled release tablets whole
- Tell your doctor immediately if you have loss of appetite, vomiting, abdominal pain, cramps, fatigue, diarrhoea, or weightloss
- Drinking alcohol may affect control of your diabetes. May also increase serious side effects. Limit alcohol intake, don’t binge drink and eat food when you drink.
