How does GLP-1 work (patient friendly terms)?
A
This medication balances your blood glucose by supporting your pancreas function and stops inappropriate production of glucose. It will also slow the absorption of glucose and decrease your appetite.

What are the side effects of GLP-1?
A
May cause nausea, vomiting (tummy upset), diarrhoea, constipation, fatigue, and injection site rash

What are the counselling points of GLP-1?
A
Tell your doctor immediately if you develop unexplained severe abdominal pain.
Side effects usually reduce and stops within a short time of taking this medication.
Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

How is GLP-1 administered?
A
- Insert needle into pen - do not touch the needle, make sure it stays in the container as you insert it.
- Prime the needle by pressing the button and make sure a drop comes out of the needle.
- Twist dosing end to measure out the prescribed dose.
- Inject the needle at a ninety degree angle
- Use your thumb to hold the plunger down until you hear a click
- Hold it in the skin for 10 seconds before removing from the skin at a ninety degree angle
- Remove needle by placing needle cap over the pen and twisting it off.
