Meters Flashcards
What does the gas ranger detect?
Methane
What mode would you use to PINPOINT the source of a gas leak using the gas ranger?
-sniff/track gas
At what percentage does the gas ranger alarm?
- at 10% LEL
- at 5% gas (50,000 PPM)
What will the gas ranger display indicate if the battery is low?
“Flashes low”
What 5 areas of the atmosphere does the multirae measure?
1) Combustibility (methane but can do many more)
2) O2
3) CO (Carbon Monoxide)
4) H2S (Hydrogen Sulfide)
5) VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds)
What are the alarm levels on the MultiRae?
LEL = 10% O2 = 19.5% & 23.5% CO = 35 PPM H2S = 10 PPM VOC = 50 PPM-100
(MultiRae) How many PPM is 20% by volume?
200,000 PPM
What type of battery does the MultiRae Pro use?
Rechargeable Lithium Ion battery. Meter should be kept on the charger when not in use.
When air monitoring around electrical hazards (MultiRAE), what type of sampling wand is used?
Non-conductive wand
What contaminates may give you false readings, damage sensors or damage meter (MultiRAE)?
a. organic silicones
b Silicates
c. Lead containing compounds
What are VOC’s and what is the highest Ionization Potential (IP) that the meter can detect?
- Volatile Organic Compounds; modern industrial chemicals such as fuels, coatings, solvents, refrigerants, etc. They have a tendency to evaporate easily under normal conditions making them volatile and they have high flash points.
- 10.6eV
How does the MultiRae read VOC’s?
There are 3 different PID sensors that can be used. (1) measures 0.1-5000 PPM (2) measures 1-1000PPM (3) 10PPB - 2000PPM
What do you want to do prior to metering a hazardous area (MultiRae)?
a) block pump inlet to make certain pump is working. Press Reset
b) Bump test. If it fails bump test, then calibrate meter.
c) confirm measurement gas (conversion factor) is set appropriately.
What are “conversion factors”? (MultiRae)
Values that must be multiplied by the reading, in LEL or VOC’s, to get the true reading of a known chemical. The MultiRae meter has all conversion factors built into the meter. Once you change the “measurement gas” (conversion factor) in the meter, you will get accurate readings from the meter.
Describe the Multirae probe and how long does it take for the gas to reach the meter?
The MultiRae has a filter on the inlet tube of the meter itself. You do not need a wand to take measurements. However, if you need the reach or are doing remote monitoring through long hoses, wands and tubing are supplied with each meter. If using a wand or tubing, remember that it takes about 1 second per foot of tubing and wand for the gas to reach the meter.
How often should you bump test and calibrate the MultiRae meter?
Bump: Once a week and before every call.
Calibrate: every 90 days or if it fails a bump test.
What gas do we calibrate the Multirae with?
- LEL, O2, CO and H2S = Multi-gas methane, oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide.
- VOC’s = Isobutylene
