METAR Weather Flashcards
What is the standard altimeter value in QNH and inches of mercury?
1013 hPa / 29.92 inches Hg
How many feet equals 1 hPa
27ft or rounded off to 30 ft
When QNH is greater than 1013, pressure altitude is higher or lower?
Lower
Formula to compute for difference in height based on QNH
- (1013 - actual QNH) = A
- A x 30ft = B
- B + or - pressure height = final height
(if QNH is greater than 1013, subtract, else if lower, add to pressure height)
METAR vs TAF
METAR: every hour
TAF: valid for 24 - 30 hours and typically issued 4 times a day (every 6 hours)
