flame test method

A
  • pour 2cm3 of concentrated HCl into a crucible
  • clean a platinum or nichrome wire or silica glass flame test rod by dipping into the acid and then into the blue flame (non-luminous) several times to remove impurities
  • once clean, the rod will give no colourarion to flame.
  • put half a spatula of the unknown onto a ceramic mat
  • dip flame test rod into acid again (glue)
  • put rod into out part of Bunsen
  • observe colour
