flame test method
A
- pour 2cm3 of concentrated HCl into a crucible
- clean a platinum or nichrome wire or silica glass flame test rod by dipping into the acid and then into the blue flame (non-luminous) several times to remove impurities
- once clean, the rod will give no colourarion to flame.
- put half a spatula of the unknown onto a ceramic mat
- dip flame test rod into acid again (glue)
- put rod into out part of Bunsen
- observe colour
