metabolism Flashcards
what is matabolism
the way your body converts food that you eat into energy.
what is bmr, what does it stand for
- basal metabloc rate
- is the # of cals required for your body to function at rest
- depends of factors such your height, weight, gender, and avtivity lvl
what percent of your consumed calories are used for what function?
65% - bodily function , ex breathing
10% - digestion of the food ur eating
25% - working out every day function
how do you improve your metabolism?
- develop more lean muscle
- small meals more frequently during the day
- incormerate more weight training
what affects you metabolism?
- your environment- food and activiy levle
- a persons physical condition
- weigt training or arobics training, weight training is better.
how do you calculate bmr?
women -> 655 + (4.35 x weigt in lb) +(4.7 x hight in inches)- (4.7x age in years)
men-> 66 +(6.23x weight lb) + (12.7xheight in inches) - (6.8x age in years)
how do you determine you daily cal needs?
- if moderatly active (3-5/week) = bmr x 1.55
- if very active(6-7/week)= bmr x 1.725
- if extra active (hard exersise/pysical job) = bmr x 1.9
energy intake is in the form of —— and energy expendature is in the form of ——–.
food
BMR and pysical activity
the diff between energy intake and energy expendature is —————.
net energy balance.
when do you hv positive net energy
intake > expedature
when do you have negative net energy
expendature < intake
energy expendature depends on what?
(start body weight)
(bmr)
(activity frequency, activity intensity, duration of activity, type of activity)
when you decrese your body weight what __ __ too.
bmr decreses
would you have to exersise more or less when you lose more weight.
more.
