Primary deficiency of vasopressin secretion usually due to irreversible destruction of neurohypophysis

Pituitary DI due to surgery in/around neurohypophysis

-treatment

A

Desmopressin (DDAVP) = synthetic vasopressin analogue

Acts selectively on V2 receptors -> incr urine concentration, decr urine flow

  • dose-dependent
  • more resistent to degradation than vasopressin, 3-4x duration of action
