The rate of the chemical reactions/processes within the body e.g. aerobic respiration and digestion.
What are the factors that affect metabolic rate?
Males usually has higher muscle mass/fat ratio than females this affects metabolism
Exercise/ activity also affects metabolism

What is a balanced diet?
When the body gets the right amounts of nutrients in order to stay healthy
What are the 7 types of nutrients?
vitamins minerals protein carbohydrates fat fibre water
How does vitamin and minerals help the body keep healthy?
Minerals and vitamins keep bones (need calcium), teeth (need phosphorus) and skin
How does protein help the body keep healthy?
Helps the muscles grow and repair
How does fat keep the body healthy?
Fat is stored energy
How does fibre keep the body healthy?
Fibre helps the poo stay soft meaning you can poo easier
How does water keep the body healthy?
If we did not have no water within our body no chemical reaction could take place

The condition when the body does not get a balanced diet
What is deficiency disease?
A disease caused by a lack of vitamins or minerals
What happens to your body if you take in too much vitamins or too few vitamins?
You become malnourished
Too much - you gain too much energy and become overweight
Too few - you develop a deficiency disease
