Metabolic Pathways Flashcards
Metabolic pathways ?
Is a series of reaction that build up and break down molecules for cellular processes
Metabolism
Is the sum of all reaction that occurs in an organism to maintain life
Examples of chain metabolic pathways
Glycolysis ( cell respiration)
Coagulation cascade ( blood clotting)
Example of cyclical metabolic pathways?
Krebs’s cycle ( cell respiration)
Calvin cycle ( photosynthesis)
Krebs’s cycle
Step 1:
Acetyl coA enters the Krebs’s cycle and joins to oxaloacetate by an enzyme called Citrate synthase to produce citrate.
The step is accomplished by the input of water.
The oxaloacetate is the final by product of Krebs cycle and it joins to start all over again
This stage is called the committed stage.
Step 2:
Citrate is converted to isocitrate by an enzyme called aconitase .
The step is accomplished by the addition and removal of water to yield an isomer.
Step 3:
Isocitrate is then converted to alpha- ketoglutarate by an enzyme called isocitrate dehydrogenase and the by product is NADH and CO2.
Step 4:
Alpha-ketogluterate is converted to sunnyl-coA by an enzyme called alpha-ketogluterate dehydrogenase and the by product are NADH and CO2.
