Meta Theories Flashcards
General Systems Theory
This model is about the dynamic interaction of the components such that a change in any part of the system affects the rest of the system but does not necessarily determine the total system. Families, couples, org, system
Macro- reactors to a larger system
Micro- society is a result of behavior of the individual
General Systems concepts
homeostasis: steady state order necessary for movement.
feedback: when output from systems is put back into the system.
Ecological Theory/Life Model
1st model of SW. Focuses on the inter-relatedness between people and the enviornment as a theoretical outgrowth of general systems theory. The duality of the person/environment concept emphasizes a simultaneous focus on both.
Ecological Theory concepts
Adaptedness: Goodness of fit with the environment. Adaptation is continuous process
Stress: Is positive or negative. Environmental demand perceived as challenge and associated with positive feelings or discrepancy between demand and capacity for coping with it associated with neg feelings (stress as distress)
coping: psychological, physiological and behavioral response that is set in motion as a result of the experience of emotional stress. Effective coping patterns lead to the elimination of stress.
