- Arterial embolism (following atrial fib., MI)
- Arterial thrombosis (on pre-existing atherosclerosis)
- Venous thrombosis

Embolic occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery

Foregut: distal oesophagus to second part of duodenum

Midgut: third part of duodenum to mid-transverse colon
