Why did people choose to leave Britain (religious reasons)?
Henry the VIII changed the main religion to protestant so Catholics could not worship as they wanted.
How did the new settlers in America plan to make money?
By growing crops with the land in America and then export it to Britain to make a large profit.
Who was working at the plantations originally?
Indentured servants who worked off their payment for travelling to America.
Why was slavery so profitable?
Slaved had no legal rights, needed no pay, had children which were turned into slaves aswell.
How did the slave trade then develop?
Britain started trading luxury goods to Africa for slaves to go to America and the Carribbean to then work and harvest crops to be sold in Britain.
What was exported from America to Britain?
Silk, tobacco, sugar and molasses.
Why did jamestown succeed?
Instead of searching for gold they used the land to farm cash crops including tobacco.
Why could religion be seen as the main factor for people migrating to America?
Change from catholic to protestant, over 80000 puritans fleeing.

Trading with colonies, democratic law and order, ensuring religion was the centre of their life.

Indigenous people didn’t get respected, attacked the indigenous people, didn’t get wealthy quickly.

Farmed the land successfully, grew tobacco and sold it.
What were the failures of virginia?
1/4 of the settlers killed in the Jamestown massacre.
What were the successes of the Massachusetts colony?
First permanent colony, help from native americans, democratic principles and constitution.
