DMDD
Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder:
mood disorder in children and adolescents characterized by chronic, severe irritability and frequent episodes of extreme temper outbursts
Outbursts are out of proportion in intensity or duration to the situation.
Behavior OBS in home and school; s/s present for 12+ months
Tx: Computer-based training, parent training, CBT
PDD vs MDD
Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia)
Duration:
PDD: persists for at least 2 years.
MDD: Episodes of MDD can last for at least 2 weeks to 5-6 months
Severity:
PDD: milder, dull
MDD: profound sadness/anhedonia; significant func. impair
Symptom count:
PDD: depressed mood +2 other symptoms
MDD: depressed mood/anhedonia +5 other symptoms
Onset:
PDD: starts in childhood, adolescence, or early adulthood, and subtle in beginning
MDD: any age; clear beginning and end
Tx:
PDD: CBT, SSRI, SNRI, TCAs
MDD:
PMDD
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
Severe form of PMS; significant premenstrual mood disturbances, often with irritability, tension, and dysphoria (a state of unease or generalized dissatisfaction with life)
All same PMS s/s + MOOD SWINGS, anxiety, depression, in the 2 weeks leading up to menstration, which can interfere with daily life.
Tx: exercise, complex carbs, sleep, light therapy, acupuncture, relaxation therapy, and SSRIs (paroxetine, sertraline, & fluoxetine)
Substance/Medically-induced DD
DD d/t another disorder
Tx Modalities
Anhedonia
loss of interest or pleasure in activities
Serotonin Syndrome
