What is a mental illness?
A condition of impairment resulting in a significant changes in mental, emotional, psychological or social functioning
What is a mental disorder?
A diagnosable illness that significantly interferes with an individual’s cognitive, emotional or social abilities; a condition where the person cannot cope and function as they previously, leading to personal and social, financial distress
What does Psychological (mental) distress refer to?
Psychological (mental) distress refers to a person’s experience of symptoms (such as anxiety, psychological fatigue or depression) which can impact on the enjoyment of life, and on personal and social wellbeing
