A
Obsession is an intrusive repetitive thought that causes distress/anxiety, and is unrealistic or irrational (ie: obsessions about being contaminated by germs)

A
Compulsion is a repetitive behavior or ritual, or mental act (ie handwashing, checking, counting) often meant to neutralize a thought, or to prevent an unrealistic outcome
