definition of MCA
A
provides a statutory framework to empower and protect vulnerable people who are not able to make their own decisions

key features
A
- how much capacity you have to make decisions of your best interests
- the act makes it clear who can make decisions which then enables people plan ahead for a time where they may lose capacity

5 principles
A
- assume capacity= unless you can prove otherwise
- maximise capacity= always support the person to make decisions
Tell them the pros and cons and leave it to them - unwise decisions= don’t always mean lack of capacity
- any decisions made must be in the person’s best interests
- decisions must be the least restrictive options
