MENSTRUATION IS ITS OWN GAME Flashcards
FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone)
there is a rise in follicle stimulating hormone secretion in the first half of the cycle (follicular phase) that stimulates follicular growth in the ovary.
LH (Luteinising Hormone)
LH is released only in the second part of the menstrual cycle. That is, after an initial surge causes the release of an egg (ovulation), LH is released at a constant pace for two weeks.
Luteal Phase (Menstrual Cycle)
Step 4:
This causes the lining of the uterus to thicken in preparation for pregnancy.
Ovulation (Menstrual Cycle)
Step 3:
Ovulation is the process in which a mature egg is released from the ovary. After it’s released, the egg moves down the fallopian tube and stays there for 12 to 24 hours, where it can be fertilised.
Follicular Phase (Menstrual Cycle)
Step 2:
The egg matures in the ovaries. It’s part of an ongoing process in the body during the reproductive years when hormones activate changes in the body that make it possible for the female to become pregnant.
Menstruation (Menstrual Cycle)
Step 1:
When a female menstruates, their body discards the monthly buildup of the lining of the uterus (womb).
Progesterone
If conception occurs, progesterone increases to support the pregnancy.
Estrogen
Estrogen levels rise during the mid-follicular phase and then drop precipitously after ovulation.
