What is the clinical presentation of meniscal injury?

A

Long standing CCL lameness worsens, or a very painful CCL with a meniscal click in late flexion

What is a partial meniscectomy?

A

The treatment of choice for bucket handle tears of the medial meniscus.

Lever the tibia down and forward with a Hohmann retractor and cut the most medial attachment first

Why is the lateral meniscus less predisposed to injury?

A

Additional ligament inserts into the caudal intercondyloid fossa of the femoral condyle
Loose cranial and caudal meniscotibial ligaments and meniscocapsular ligaments

A

Means of protecting the medial meniscus following surgical stabilisation of stifle for CCL rupture- medial arthrotomy to expose menisci

Insert needle caudal to collateral ligament and chase with no 11 scalpel
