CCL Disease Flashcards
What is the structure and function of the CCL?
Attached to cranial tibia and attaches to the femur
It prevents cranial movement of the tibia when the extensors contract
Why is radiography used?
Rule out other pathology and detect DJD
Show joint effusion (effacing infra patellar fat pad)
Check Tibial thrust and Cranial draw when sedated
If CCL rupture is confirmed, what is the first step?
Arthrotomy to remove CCL remnants and assess medial meniscus damage
Why would a CCL patient present more painful than expected?
Meniscal tear
What is the procedure for TTA?
Cranial medial parapatellar incision Towel clamp retracts fascia and skin Gelpi applied to patella tendon Long digital extensor fossa Cage placed in osteotomy site
What are the landmarks for radiography allowing planning for tibial wedge osteotomy?
Femoral condyles superimposed
Centre of trochlea of talus
Centre of intercondylar eminence
Estimated tibial playteau
How is the tibial wedge calculated?
Tibial plateau angle minus 6 degrees
