Mendelian Genetics (18&19) Flashcards
1
Q
State Mendels first law (segregation) and second law (independent assortment), and explain how they each relate to the behaviour of alleles, genes and chromosomes during meiosis
A
First law
‘the alleles of a given locus segregate into separate gametes.’
The first division of meiosis, the homologous chromosomes with their different versions of each gene are segregated into daughter nuclei.
Second law
Law of independent assortment states that the alleles of one gene sort into gametes independently of the alleles of another gene.
