  • Tulving was one of the first to realise that the MSM was too simplistic that the WMM did not address LTM
  • therefore he proposed that there are three types of LTM stores

  • personal experiences from a specific point in time
  • ‘mental diary’
  • requires cues, context dependant
  • memory of events
  • time referenced
  • requires conscious effort to recall
  • explicit memory
  • examples: first day of school, birthdays or first crush
