Q

What is the Multi-store model of memory?

A

is a psychological theory that was first proposed by Atkinson and Shiffrin in 1968. It proposes that there are three distinct memory stores in the brain: sensory memory, short-term memory (STM), and long-term memory (LTM)

Q

What was Alan Baddeley (1966) research and findings on memory.

A

His research was testing ppnts on {acoustically} and {semantically} similar and dissimilar words and the effect on short and long term memory.

He found that ppnts were more likely to remember words acoustically in STM, However sematically in LTM.

Conclusion
- STM memory is stored acoustically.
- LTM memory is stored semantically.

Q

What was Jacobs psychology experiment?

A

Digit span. starts out at 3 digits to remember in a limited time frame, after that has been concluded moves up to next digit if you had recalled the previous digits correct. stops when all Ppnts fail.

Q

What was the purpose of Jacobs Research On the Digit Span. & what were the results -> conclusion.

A

The purpose of Jacobs research was to find out how many information the STM can hold at one time.

Jacobs found that the mean span for digits across all ppnts was 9.3 items: Mean for letters was 7.3.

Jacobs concluded that the capacity of short term memory is finite. There is a limit on how much information can be stored, and so recalled, accurately within short-term memory.

Q

Research on capacity - Span of memory and chunking.

Who researched this and what did he conclude?

A

George Miller (1956) - He made observations. And noted that things come in 7’s.

George Miller Believes that the span (capacity) of the STM is about 7 items /+-2

Also noted that people can remember 5 words and easily as they can recall 5 letters. and called it chunking> the grouping of sets of digits or letters into unit or chunks.

Q

Mangaret and Lloyd Peterson.

A

Tested 24 students on the Duration Of STM
Gave them a constant syllable and a 3 digit number alongside to count down from.
At increasing intervals asked to recall constant syllable.
And gained valuable results from them

Q

What were Mangaret and Lloyd Peterson inference from there results and showing on the duration of stm

A

They studied Duration of STM
- found out average recall was about 80% at 3 second interval & 3% at 3 second interval.

Showed & Suggested that duration of stm is around 18 seconds.
