Memory: Reconstructive Memory Flashcards
AO1 Bartlett
AO3 Carly
Butler just suggested that our memories are like a blank canvas and we add experiences and other things also stereotypes he said that memory is not an exact reproduction of past advance but more reconstruction influenced by our existing schemas believes and knowledge
Call study about the rapist people described him as strong and scary but in fact was shorter and didn’t look scary which suggests how we use stereotypes to describe something we have not experienced ourselves
AO1 Schema
AO3 Bartlett ghost story
Schemas are framework of knowledge facts perceptions that help us fill in the gaps of things we don’t remember
Bartlett conducted the study involving 20 students about a good story which had unusual features and he asked them to read it after a while when they record it some change the story like 330 words to 180 some change it or added more
AO1 new experiences
AO3 WYN and logie
Went in putting how we feel it depends on a time place and is a different story for every individual
Wynn and logie conducted the study where they applied schema in the context of university life when new students were excited and happy to be at the university so they had a better memory of it this proves that when we don’t have an existing schema, we remember everything
AO1 confabulation
AO3 EWT
Confabulation is when you recall an event but is disordered but are filled in from what we think is true
Eyewitness testimony, Ronald Cotton was convicted for rape and was in jail in for 10 years because the women forced accused him. He was not guilty after 10 years which proves how sometimes confabulation stressful situations and eyewitness may not always be reliable.
