Memory: Multi-store Model Evaluation Flashcards
Multi-store memory model strength: seperate IS supported by research
Real life case study of Clive Wearing. His STM was working but his LTM was damaged which supports that the stores are separate. The model is a valid explanation of memory.
Multi-store memory model limitation: unitary NOT supported by research
Clive Wearing has some long term memories but not others which suggests it’s not a unitary store meaning the model may not be a valid explanation of how memory works.
Multi-store model limitation: flash bulb memories
Overemphasises the role of rehearsal in forming long-term memories. People don’t need rehearsal to remember flash bulb memories e.g. first day of Covid lockdown. Suggest msm isn’t a valid explanation
Multi-store model limitation: contradicted by the working memory model.
STM is no longer a single store. Working memory model shows STM to be made up of three seperate components. Model not a valid explanation.
