Memory and Learning Flashcards
The process of acquiring new and relatively enduring information, behavior pattern and abilities as result of study, experimental and practice
Learning
Theories of learning
Classical learning
Operant learning
Observational learning
Associative learning
Memory
The ability to retain information
Memory based on what mental processes?
Learning and encoding
Retention across time of period
Retrieval or reactivation of memory
What are the temporal stages of memory?
- Iconic memory
- Short-term memory
- Intermediate-term memory
- Long-term memory
Very brief, stores sensory impressions of a scene.
A form of memory that outlasts STM but it is not LTM
Iconic memory
Intermediate-term memory
Memory that usually lasts for seconds as long as it’s being rehearsed
STM
Long term memory
Enduring form of memory that last for days, weeks, years.
Semantic memory
Knowledge about world- facts that anyone could know. Like:
General knowledge
Areas of expertise
Things learnt in school
Information that is Autobiographical
The when where and what happen in your life and how you remember it.
Life episodes
Episodic memory
The conscious recollection of of info like specific facts, events and information that can be stated verbally
Declarative (explicit) memory
Non declarative (implicit) memory
Memory in which behavior is affected by prior experience without recollection of that experience
Learning to perform a task that involves motor coordination
Procedural skilled memory
The phenomenon, exposure to a stimulus facilitate the subsequent responses to the same of similar stimulus
Priming
Classical conditioning
A learning in which an organism come to learn to associate two stimuli or a stimulus and a respond.
