Memory Flashcards
Who conducted research into coding
Baddeley
What is the Visio-spatial sketch pad made up of?
Visual cache and inner scribe
What does the inner scribe do?
It stores the arrangement of objects within the visual field
What does the visual cache do?
Stores visual data
What is the purpose of the central executive?
Monitors incoming data and allocates it to different slave systems that’s most appropriate
What is the Phonological loop made up of?
Phonological loop and articulatory process
What does the phonological store do?
Stores words we hear
What does the articulatory process do?
Allow for maintainable rehearsal
What is the capacity of the articulatory process?
2 seconds
What is the purpose of the episodic buffer?
It is a temporary store for info
Storage component that has 4 chunks capacity
When was the episodic buffer and by who?
2000 Baddeley
Does KF support or contradict the working memory model?
Supporting because it proves that there are different types of STM because he could process visual information but not verbal information.
Therefore showing that the phonological loop is damaged not the visuospatial sketch pad
What is an evaluation point for the WMM that includes the central executive?
There is a lack of clarity over the central executive, it is just said that it is ‘attention’
Explain dual task performance as an evaluation for the WMM
Dual task performance proves the theory of different sub sections of STM. This because a ppt was asked to complete 2 tasks. They could successfully complete an auditory task and visual at the same time. However they struggled when it was 2 of the same task
Explain brain scans as an evaluation for WMM
Braver et al - gave tasks involving the central executive and scanned them
There were activity in the prefrontal cortex when the tasks were completed and this increased as the difficulty increased
