Membranes Flashcards
Mucous Membranes
Membranes that form the linings of body cavities open to the exterior (digestive, respiratory, urinary and reproductive tracts)
Serous Membranes
(double layered membranes that surround organs; one closest to organ is visceral; against the cavity layer parietal. Serous fluid is between the two)
Clear watery fluid secreted by cells of a serous membrane.
Moist membrane found in closed ventral body cavities
Visceral Membranes
Covers the heart; and most of the organs within that cavity.
Parietal Membranes
Lines the pericardial cavity; it is associated with the walls of the abdominopelvic cavity.
Pleura Membranes
Covers lungs
Pericardium Membranes
Double layered sac enclosing the heart and forming its superficial layer; has fibrous and serous layers
Peritoneum Membranes
Serous membrane lining of the interior of the abdominal cavity and covering the surfaces of abdominal organs
