GSE or SVE Cranial Nerves? V, VII, IX, X, XI
SVE
The medulla houses which cranial nerves?
IX, X, XII
What does VTTT stand for?
Ventral trigeminothalamic tract
The axons traveling from the inferior olive to the cerebellum (through the inferior cerebellar peduncle) are known as:
Climbing fibers
Movement of the head/arms/ a little legs in response to VISION goes through what tract in the mid-medulla?
Medial longitudinal fasciculus
The afferents for pain/temp/LT from the FACE travel through what structures in the mid-medulla?
- Spinotrigeminal tract (primary)
2. Nucleus of the spinotrigeminal tract (2nd order)
This motor nucleus found in the medulla carries GVE preganglionic PE to the heart via CN-X, and SVE LMN’s to the skeletal muscles for swallowing (CN-IX), speaking (CN-X), and upper traps and SCM (CN-XI)
Nucleus ambiguus
This sensory nucleus is first seen in the closed medulla and ends in the inferior pons. It contains GVA and SVA nuclei. The caudal portion receives primary afferent GVA chemo and baroreceptors from CNs IX and X. It’s rostral portion receives primary SVA afferents for taste from CNs VII, IX and X. It is posterolateral to the DMX.
Nucleus solitarius
These sensory nuclei are first seen in the closed medulla and end in the middle pons. They are located posterolateral to the nucleus solitarius and transmit SSA axons for balance.
Vestibular nuclei
This complex fiber tract is located dorsal to the medial lemniscus along the midline. It contains both ascending and descending fibers. Visual - muscle reflexes, extrapyramidal.
Medial Longitudinal Fasciculus (MLF)
