MORPHINE
Morphine sulfate Opioid Schedule 2 Acute pain, severe chronic(palliative) Used after surgery PCA
ACETAMINOPHEN
Non-opioid
NSAID
Tylenol
Can give no more than 4 grams per 24 hours
Many opioids are mixed with Tylenol
Given oral or IV (1g in 15 minute infusion)
Acetylcysteine( mucomist) is given as antidote for overdose. Taken orally
TRAMADOL
Non opioid
Acute and chronic pain
FENTYNOL
Opioid
Schedule 2
Anesthesia sedation, acute and chronic pain, Cancer pain
Moderate to severe pain (7-10)
HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE
Diuretic
Treats high blood pressure and fluid retention, heart failure
POTASSIUM
NEVER A DIRECT PUSH!
Taken with food
IV must be given on a pump
Bolus must be over 1 hour’s time 10mq in 100mL of saline
LISINOPRIL
Ace inhibitor
Good for patients in liver failure
Not a pro drug
May cause dry cough
LOSARTAN
ARB ( angiotensin receptor blocker) first line agent for heart failure
DIGOXIN
Slows down heart rate
Normal level 0.5-2.0
Do not give if potassium is low
Derived from foxglove plant
Digibind is antidote for toxicity over 10
Toxicity can include seeing yellow green tints
Vomiting and diarrhea , headaches, confusion, convulsions
ATORVASTATIN
Treats hyperlipidemia, high cholesterol, coronary heart disease, PAD, stroke, heart attack
CARVEDILOL
Beta blocker
May treat high blood pressure, heart failure, heart attack
EZETIMIBE
Lowers cholesterol levels
FUROSEMIDE
Diuretic
Can cause HYPONATREMIA, HYPOKALEMIA
HCTZ
HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE
Diuretic
PCSK9 INHIBITORS
Used to lower LDL cholesterol
