apothecary - sold herbal remedies & were commonly used by the poor

physicians - medieval doctors who trained reading books by Galen, Hippoc. & monks for 7 yrs & only the £ could afford

v influential - physicians often trained at unis set up by the Church
- Church controlled the ed. system & physicians studied Galen’s ideas as they fitted with Church’s beliefs of God
