He gave orders to his soldiers, collected rents and taxes, he was responsible for upholding the law, he trained for battle and went hawking and hunting as pastimes.

What did the lady of a castle do?
make sure the daily running of the castle went smoothly, she was in charge of the stores, baking, brewing and the cellar. She gave instructions to servants and pages,spun flax and wool for thread and was responsible for her daughters education.

manor- village and land around it
tithe- this was the tax paid to the local priest. It consisted of 10% of your yearly income/produce.

A guild controlled each trade, it set exams and controlled standard, looked after sick and older members.
